How does a water treatment station work?

The station looks like a softener, but instead of just resin, the tank contains a multifunctional media (e.g. ECOMIX in Ecosoft and Klarwod stations):

1. Well water flows through the media.
2. Calcium and magnesium ions (limescale) as well as dissolved iron and manganese are removed.
3. ECOMIX media also reduce ammonia and organic compounds that discolor and odorize the water.
4. Soft, clear water without rust sediment flows from the taps.

When the media becomes saturated, the control valve automatically starts a brine regeneration, and the backwash water is discharged into the sewer system. Just like with a softener, you only need to add tablet salt.

How to choose a station for your home?

Three things matter: the number of residents, the water test results (hardness, iron, manganese) and the well pump capacity. As a rough guide:

Station prices start at approx. PLN 2,950, while models with the largest media and Clack control valve cost up to approx. PLN 6,300. Each station has a limit on the iron and manganese in the incoming water: for example, Aquaphor S550–S1000 up to 10–14 mg/l of iron, and Ecosoft Core Gold and Titanium Gold up to 15 mg/l of iron and 3 mg/l of manganese. You will find the exact values on each product page. You can check water hardness with a home test, but for well water, we recommend a full laboratory test.

Station, softener or iron filter?

• Limescale only (tap water) – a water softener is enough.
• Limescale + iron and manganese within the station's limits (typical well water) – a water treatment station from this category.
• Very high iron levels, above the station's limit – a separate iron filter first, followed by a softener or station.
• “Rotten egg” odor (hydrogen sulfide) – choose the Aquaphor P1 version with KDF85 or add a carbon filter after the station.

Compact design and control valve

All stations in our offer have a compact design: the media and salt tank are in a single enclosure that will fit in a boiler room or utility room. Ecosoft Core Gold and Titanium Gold stations use American Clack control valves, valued for their reliability and availability of spare parts. Klarwod ECOMULTI has a BNT valve with a Polish menu, while Aquaphor has its own controller that adjusts regeneration to actual water consumption.

1. Pre-filter (mechanical) – stops sand and silt from the well that could damage the control valve. Usually required to maintain the warranty. See well filters.
2. Water treatment station – removes limescale, iron and manganese.
3. UV lamp (if there is a risk of bacteria) – well water can be microbiologically contaminated. A UV lamp installed after the station disinfects the water without chemicals.
4. Drinking water filter (optional) – under the kitchen sink, an under-sink filter with reverse osmosis and remineralization.

How much does it cost to maintain the station?

Just like a softener: tablet salt (a 25 kg bag for approx. PLN 40–50 is usually enough for 1–2 months) and negligible electricity. Multifunctional media for well water is usually replaced after a few years – sooner if the water contains a lot of iron and organic compounds. It is worth having the media inspected and disinfected once a year.
